Civic Bodies Clear air on Property Tax

Those paying taxes manually will have to deposit cheques only at offices falling under their respective corporations

The three municipal corporations have come up with a set of guidelines on how to pay tax, post-trifurcation.

While earlier, all cheques/dds had to be addressed to the commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, now they will be payable to the commissioner of the respective corporations.

All G8 receipts and online challans will be accordingly stamped as North Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi Municipal Corporations.

“After the trifurcation, there has not been a major change in the process of submission of taxes. While paying online, one has to type in the name of the ward in which the property is located, and the amount will automatically be deposited with the corporation concerned,” said assessor and collector of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, MSA Khan, who has been given the additional charge of the other two corporations.

Those who pay their taxes manually, however, will face a bit of a problem. Unlike before when tax payers could submit the forms at any of the MCD’S 12 zonal offices, they will now have to strictly deposit them at the zonal offices falling under their corporation. This means that a resident of South Extension will not be able to submit his papers in Civil Lines or Shahdara South zonal offices.

The amnesty scheme to settle property tax dues will be in effect till June 30. Under the scheme, people can pay their actual arrears, excluding penalties or interests. This will ensure that everybody, including evaders, pay their property tax.
